Harry Kane joked it was a "missed opportunity" when he blanked for Bayern Munich against Auckland City after he helped his side beat Boca Juniors at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The England captain scored one and assisted another to help the Bundesliga champions to a 2-1 victory in Group C, earning them qualification for the last-16 in the United States.

Bayern ran rampant against part-time Auckland City in their tournament opener, delivering a 10-0 drubbing, but without a finish for Kane who uncharacteristically posted a zero.

The attacker made no mistakes at Hard Rock Stadium this time around and jested that he had to make up for his empty-handed haul as he looked towards the knockout rounds.

"As a striker, when your team scores ten and you don't score, of course you're looking at a missed opportunity!" he said. "It is what it is. We were expected to win that game.

"This game is more of a tougher opponent. I'm just happy to help the team with a goal tonight.  It was a big performance from the guys. We knew it wasn't going to be easy.

"We knew we were coming into a hostile environment, with hot weather. It was tough. The first half was good. We should have been two or three-nil up for sure.

"Second half, it got tough. They put us under a bit of pressure, they got momentum. Once they scored, we shifted it back in our direction. It's great to get the goal and qualify now.

"It's a massive tournament. We're playing against the best teams in the world. We've always said it's us against us, and that's the mindset. We have to compete to our highest level.

"We should be able to beat most teams. Of course, football is a game where sometimes things go against you, but so far so good in this competition."
